Healthcare has an unstructured data problem.
Patient records, lab reports, inbound faxes — mountains of data, living in isolation. Friction. They land in siloed parts of the system that require logins, clicks, searches. Friction. A care coordinator who needs a summary of what’s in a patient folder has to navigate Salesforce, find the record, open the attachment. Friction. In a clinical environment, friction costs time. Time costs patients.
So we stopped hunting. We stopped attaching files to the EMR. Every unstructured file — of any kind — now lives in Box. HIPAA-compliant. Patient portal included. Agentforce talking to Box’s AI agent brings that data back to the point of care. That’s the headless EMR.
We Connected Agentforce to Box
Slack is the front door. Every patient has an internal Slack channel for their care team.
A coordinator asks the Slackbot for a file summary. The Slackbot invokes the Agentforce agent. The agent queries the patient’s Box folder and uses Box AI to read and summarize the contents — PDFs, images, whatever is there. The answer comes back in the channel.
No extra Salesforce clicks. No navigation. No waiting.
How It Works
- Salesforce Agentforce orchestrates the request — understanding the intent and knowing where to go.
- Box for Agentforce — a managed package from Box — connects Agentforce to Box AI’s prebuilt actions.
- Box AI does the reading and summarization.
- Box triggers Slack — when a file lands in a patient’s Box folder, Box fires a Slack notification automatically with the file name, link, and AI summary.
- Snowflake and Data 360 — the unstructured data in Box is unified through Snowflake into Data 360, where it becomes part of the IHOS.
All headless. All in Slack.
This is agent-to-agent. Agentforce talking to Box AI. No human in the middle. The agentic enterprise in practice — not a concept, not a roadmap item, not a proof of concept. Live. In production.
Why This Matters
Healthcare organizations have invested heavily in platforms — Salesforce, Box, EMR. Those platforms still require humans to navigate them. Agents change that equation. The platform becomes ambient. It meets the user where they already are — in Slack, on their phone. Slack reads and processes the data directly from Box, or through the unified platform. No manual effort. No extra clicks. No friction.
“We’ve taken Slack, Agentforce, Box, put it all together — file in Box, picked up, analyzed, given in Slack, patient problem solved.”
